Why Did Russia REALLY Invade Ukraine?

New Dawn Magazine has the article Why Did Russia REALLY Invade Ukraine?

The following article by Patrick Henningsen – written only months after Russia launched its special military operation in Ukraine on 24 February 2022 – explains the background dynamics of this war. The facts outlined here – that were suppressed in the West but well known to informed observers – are only now emerging in mainstream media as Western backers of Ukraine begin to face reality.

I wanted to preserve a link to this article. This is the real history as I remember it.

Here is an excerpt from the article that summarizes the point of the history.

After eight long years of bloodshed and failed peace negotiations, the Russian president took to the airwaves to announce Moscow’s formal recognition of the independent republics of Donetsk and Luhansk. For a legal perspective, this immediately qualified them for official Russian military protection, including the establishment of humanitarian corridors which were quickly opened. After more than seven years of stalled diplomacy, Moscow finally chose to abandon the already dead Minsk agreement and directly deal with the situation in Donbass – and the threat posed by a US-controlled and NATO-occupied Ukraine to its national homeland security.

Extremist Politics in Israel and Ukraine – Alastair Crooke, Alexander Mercouris and Glenn Diesen

Rokfin has the video Extremist Politics in Israel and Ukraine – Alastair Crooke, Alexander Mercouris and Glenn Diesen.

An amazing, and thought provoking exchange of ideas. I have been waiting for this to be posted ever since Alexander Mercouris hinted at it.

Early in the conversation the class of people they referred to was “Ashkenazi Liberal Left”. I suppose that’s what I am. I thought my whole extended family was that, too. I think we were all propagandized during our youth, to forget what that means. Somehow we were taken in by the idea of Zionism, and many are still suffering from that upbringing.

Ukraine’s neoliberalism on steroids, Europe’s economic suicide

Geopolitical Economy Report has the video Ukraine’s neoliberalism on steroids, Europe’s economic suicide

To analyze the conflict in Ukraine, political economists Radhika Desai and Michael Hudson are joined by economic geographer Mick Dunford. They discuss the aggressive neoliberal reforms being imposed by the Ukrainian government and Europe’s suicidal policies.

Marianne Williamson: THE TRAGIC CONUNDRUM OF UKRAINE

This is what Marianne Williamson has posted on her Substack THE TRAGIC CONUNDRUM OF UKRAINE

The United States should support diplomatic solutions to any dispute, in Ukraine as well as anywhere else. On that point we should never waver. But in the case of the war in Ukraine, Russia would meet any such overture with nothing but further aggression until such time as military conditions made it difficult for him to refuse the offer. Why would he do otherwise, when in his mind he is winning the war? His brutal, autocratic rule in Russia and the atrocities committed by his troops in Ukraine give us a vivid picture of what his conquest of Ukraine would mean. Any withdrawal of U.S. support for Ukraine at this point means only one thing: the end of Ukraine.

Marianne Williamson seems to be infected by the USA propaganda against Russia. This is enough to disqualify her from my support.

THE ECONOMICS OF THE UKRAINE PROXY WAR w/ MICHAEL HUDSON AND RADHIKA DESAI!

YouTube has the video THE ECONOMICS OF THE UKRAINE PROXY WAR w/ MICHAEL HUDSON AND RADHIKA DESAI!

Economists Michael Hudson and Radhika Desai join to break down the economics of the Ukraine proxy war between NATO and Russia as the one-year anniversary of the military operation approaches.

So far I have listened to the first 90 minutes which takes one to the end of the interviews with Radhika Desai and Michael Hudson. It certainly helps to have a background in the Geopolitics that Hudson, Desai, and Haiphong espouse. Of course you can develop that background by watching discussions like this. What I have come to realize is the weakness of MMT (Modern Money Theory) as practiced by almost all the rest of the MMT community (but Hudson and Desai) is the focus on sovereign currency issues. This focus tends to make MMT theorists downplay the importance of the international aspects of geopolitics. That makes MMT good as far as it goes, but it just does not go far enough.

Using Marxism to Understand the Ukraine War – Richard Wolff & David Harvey Democracy At Work

YouTube has the video Using Marxism to Understand the Ukraine War – Richard Wolff & David Harvey.

If you read most mainstream media’s explanations of the war in Ukraine, you hear a lot about freedom, decency, and equity. You hear personalized psychological profiles of Mr Putin or Mr Zelensky. But what is missing is an explanation of how the functions and contradictions of capitalism are driving and fueling this conflict in many interconnected ways.

Whatever you think about Karl Marx’s contribution to understanding capitalism, this video could be something that you can consider with some objectivity.

Roger Waters on Ukraine, BDS Controversies and American Foreign Policy

You can watch the full interview on Youtube Roger Waters on Ukraine, BDS Controversies and American Foreign Policy.

I spoke to Roger Waters, activist and co-founder of progressive rock band Pink Floyd, about his recent spate of powerful, controversial media appearances about American foreign policy. How has he managed to use his fame to go where most progressives aren’t allowed, and how has he managed to stay the course after so much pushback from the establishment?

I watched a badly chopped up version of this interview to the extent that I haven’t got the perseverance to watch this whole thing over again to see what I missed. Based on what I did see in the edited version, I think this is a great interview.

November 16, 2022

Well, I couldn’t resist, so now I have watched the whole thing. It was well worth it. There was so much of value that got cut out of the edited version. It ended in the middle of a difficult issue because Roger Waters had an interview commitment someplace else.

Gray and Waters got so deep into a discussion at the end that they lost the point. Early in the interview Waters said that the greatest sin was to watch evil and to say nothing. He then went on to say that it is a worse sin to watch evil, do nothing about it, and even applaud its happening.

Gray confused the issue at the end of the interview. She should have asked Waters, if you see evil going on, what should you do? He has already decried standing by and doing nothing. It would be logical to ask, “Well, what should you do?”

Waters had mentioned the tipping point where people would say “No more. We aren’t going to let you win the class war.” What do those words actually mean?

For Humanity’s Sake, Ukraine War Must End – Wilkerson

The Analysis News has the interview For Humanity’s Sake, Ukraine War Must End – Wilkerson.

An important Chinese commentator warns that a cornered Russia may lead to “unimaginable consequences”. Larry Wilkerson says there must be immediate negotiations to end the war to avoid the danger of nuclear conflict and to refocus the world on the climate crisis. Wilkerson and Jay also discuss rising fascism in the U.S.

I don’t agree with everything these two have to say. I think some of what they say is driven by a compelling need to show their credentials as skeptics of all sides.

The movie clip that Paul Jay has chosen to end this video is very chilling to say the least. I feel personally threatened by what is happening in the world these days.

Scott Ritter on Ukraine’s counter-offensive, Russia’s next move

YouTube has the video Scott Ritter on Ukraine’s counter-offensive, Russia’s next move.

Was the Ukrainian military’s advance around Kharkiv a turning point in the Ukraine proxy war? Will Russia have to escalate? Has the US crossed a red line with its participation in the war? Military expert and former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter joins The Grayzone’s Max Blumenthal and Aaron Mate live to discuss.

Perhaps the most disturbing part of this comes at the very end. In essence, they reveal that the USA Congress and Government has appropriated money to have these reporters killed.
