{"id":13338,"date":"2013-02-02T10:56:44","date_gmt":"2013-02-02T15:56:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/?p=13338"},"modified":"2013-02-02T10:56:44","modified_gmt":"2013-02-02T15:56:44","slug":"birth-control-rule-altered-to-allay-religious-objections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/2013\/02\/02\/birth-control-rule-altered-to-allay-religious-objections\/","title":{"rendered":"Birth Control Rule Altered to Allay Religious Objections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The New York Times<\/em> is a convenient source of this story <a title=\"The New York Times article\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/02\/02\/us\/politics\/white-house-proposes-compromise-on-contraception-coverage.html?pagewanted=all&amp;_r=0\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Birth Control Rule Altered to Allay Religious Objections<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Obama administration on Friday proposed yet another compromise to address strenuous objections from religious organizations about a policy requiring health insurance plans to provide free contraceptives, but the change did not end the political furor or legal fight over the issue.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Some of us have been wondering for a long time why Obama even tries to compromise.\u00a0 He sets a very bad precedent.<\/p>\n<p>At what point should you be allowed to shirk your responsibility that 90% of the society believes you should fulfill?\u00a0 When the Constitution says, &#8220;Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof&#8230;&#8221;, is it OK to write laws specifically relieving some members of religious institutions from their responsibilities?<\/p>\n<p>If you have a religious objection to something, shouldn&#8217;t you reimburse the government to compensate them for exempting you from your responsibilities to society.<\/p>\n<p>War conscientious objectors either served in non-combat roles or alternative service or were sent to jail or fled to Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, I know.\u00a0 These are all weak arguments.\u00a0 There is no settling this disagreement by logic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The New York Times is a convenient source of this story Birth Control Rule Altered to Allay Religious Objections.
