{"id":13423,"date":"2013-02-17T09:45:48","date_gmt":"2013-02-17T14:45:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/?p=13423"},"modified":"2013-02-17T09:48:35","modified_gmt":"2013-02-17T14:48:35","slug":"the-oscar-for-best-fabrication","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/2013\/02\/17\/the-oscar-for-best-fabrication\/","title":{"rendered":"The Oscar for Best Fabrication"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The New York Times<\/em> has published the piece <a title=\"The New York Times opEd\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/02\/17\/opinion\/sunday\/dowd-the-oscar-for-best-fabrication.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>The Oscar for Best Fabrication<\/strong><\/a> by Maureen Dowd.\u00a0 Some of the examples mentioned in Dowd&#8217;s article include:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The affable and talented Ben Affleck has admitted that his film\u2019s climax, with Iranian Revolutionary Guard officers jumping in a jeep, chasing the plane down the runway and shooting at it, was fabricated for excitement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cZero Dark Thirty,\u201d \u201cbased on firsthand accounts of actual events,\u201d has been faulted for leaving the impression that torture was instrumental in the capture of Osama. It celebrates Jessica Chastain\u2019s loner character, \u201cMaya,\u201d when it could have more accurately and theatrically highlighted \u201cThe Sisterhood,\u201d a team of female C.I.A. analysts who were part of the long effort.<\/p>\n<p>And then there\u2019s the kerfuffle over \u201cLincoln,\u201d which had three historical advisers but still managed to make some historical bloopers. Joe Courtney, a Democratic congressman from Connecticut, recently wrote to Steven Spielberg to complain that \u201cLincoln\u201d falsely showed two of Connecticut\u2019s House members voting \u201cNay\u201d against the 13th Amendment for the abolition of slavery.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Remember the <a title=\"My Favorite Quotes\" href=\"http:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/quotes\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>quote from Mark Twain<\/strong><\/a>, \u201cIt ain\u2019t what you don\u2019t know that gets you into trouble.
