{"id":16424,"date":"2014-03-14T17:03:47","date_gmt":"2014-03-14T21:03:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/?p=16424"},"modified":"2014-03-14T17:07:35","modified_gmt":"2014-03-14T21:07:35","slug":"always-believe-in-murphys-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/2014\/03\/14\/always-believe-in-murphys-law\/","title":{"rendered":"Always Believe In Murphy&#8217;s Law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To the certainty of death and taxes, we must add Murphy&#8217;s Law.<\/p>\n<p>For those of you unfamiliar with that law it states, &#8220;If anything can go wrong, it will go wrong.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, I posted the article <a title=\"Prevopus post\" href=\"http:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/2014\/03\/13\/the-solution-to-the-windows-xp-conundrum\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>The Solution To The Windows-XP Conundrum<\/strong><\/a>. In that post, I noted\u00a0 that Microsoft gives you two solutions to the problem of Windows-XP becoming unsupported in April. Both of Microsoft&#8217;s solutions wipe out your ability to run programs that you had on the old Windows-XP machine.\u00a0 In that post, I also noted that there is another option that allows you to use another operating system, Linux, on your old machine while preserving the ability to run Windows-XP if you have to.<\/p>\n<p>Being an extremely firm believer in Murphy&#8217;s Law, I chose the option that preserves Windows-XP.\u00a0 I implemented that option yesterday instead of one of those Microsoft options.<\/p>\n<p>Today, I received a letter from my sister asking me to find some old documents from 1993 and 1994.\u00a0 I have some documents on file that are in Adobe FrameMaker format.\u00a0 The only machine that I have that still has Adobe FrameMaker on it is the Windows-XP machine.\u00a0 If I had wiped out the ability to run Windows-XP yesterday, I would not have been able to look at those files today.<\/p>\n<p>You never need 20 year old documents until exactly the day after you eliminate the capability to read them.\u00a0 Since I knew of that problem, I preserved my ability to read them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To the certainty of death and taxes, we must add Murphy&#8217;s Law.
