{"id":16922,"date":"2014-04-21T22:55:08","date_gmt":"2014-04-22T02:55:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/?p=16922"},"modified":"2014-04-21T22:55:08","modified_gmt":"2014-04-22T02:55:08","slug":"foreign-policy-and-the-definition-of-manhood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/2014\/04\/21\/foreign-policy-and-the-definition-of-manhood\/","title":{"rendered":"Foreign policy and the definition of \u2018manhood\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The MaddowBlog<\/em> has the article <a title=\"The MaddowBlog article\" href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/rachel-maddow-show\/foreign-policy-and-the-definition\" target=\"_blank\">Foreign policy and the definition of \u2018manhood\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Right off the bat, let\u2019s note that it\u2019s arguably well past time for the political world to stop equating \u201cmanhood\u201d with \u201ccruise missiles.\u201d Being an \u201calpha male\u201d or an \u201calpha dog\u201d may somehow seem impressive, in a junior-high-school-yard sort of way, but when analyzing geopolitical crises, we need a different kind of framework.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s apparently a knee-jerk assumption among too many that \u201creal men\u201d use bombs, not diplomacy. If memory serves, President Obama\u2019s predecessor, whom no one accused of having a perceived \u201cmanhood problem,\u201d often thought the same way. The foreign policy consequences, however, were nevertheless disastrous.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Are you willing to die so that Obama can prove he doesn&#8217;t have a &#8220;manhood&#8221; problem?\u00a0 Are you willing to send your children and grand-children, or even great-grand-children to war to prove that the current president has &#8220;balls&#8221;, even if that President is eventually a woman?<\/p>\n<p>For about a microsecond I was thinking that having a woman President might solve this problem of trying to prove &#8220;manhood&#8221;.\u00a0 The trouble is that a woman President will have to act even more warlike than a man to prove that she is strong enough to be President.\u00a0 I am not sure that even Elizabeth Warren would be strong enough to stand against this tide.\u00a0 Maybe if she were in the same administration as Bernie Sanders, the two of them could resist this foolish talk.\u00a0 And please don&#8217;t say something as silly as Hillary Clinton would be less of a war hawk than even George W. Bush.<\/p>\n<p>Who do you think could possibly have the courage to say no to fomenting war?\u00a0 Does the President control the CIA, or does the CIA control the President?\u00a0 Once in office, will the CIA whine to the new President, &#8220;You can&#8217;t stop this war, we&#8217;ve put too much effort into getting it started.\u00a0 If you stop it now, you will just confuse our allies and our enemies.&#8221;\u00a0 Is this the kind of foolish rhetoric that has finally got Obama out proving his &#8220;manhood&#8221;?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The MaddowBlog has the article Foreign policy and the definition of \u2018manhood\u2019.
