But the \u201cnothing to see here\u201d position reflects even worse on the investors, since it meant they were at least dimly aware that some practices didn\u2019t pass the smell test, but they chose not to act on their suspicions, out of reluctance to ruffle their precious relationship with the general partners, when many of those general partners, despite their well-cultivate charm, are out only for maximizing their own return.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This trend in pension fund investing is the fly in the ointment to my previous post <a title=\"Previous post\" href=\"http:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/2013\/11\/16\/saving-social-security-a-better-approach\/\" target=\"_blank\">Saving Social Security: A Better Approach<\/a>.\u00a0 The idea of running Social Security like a well run private or state level pension fund presupposes that these other pension funds are still well run.\u00a0 We need to modify our definition of what a well run pension fund means.\u00a0 It means running with the old-fashioned responsibility that well run pension funds used to embody.\u00a0 It means avoiding the irresponsible behavior described in <a title=\"Naked Capitalism article\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nakedcapitalism.com\/2014\/05\/private-equity-limited-partners-done-lousy-job-protecting-interests.html?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+NakedCapitalism+%28naked+capitalism%29\" target=\"_blank\">Why Have Private Equity Limited Partners Done a Lousy Job of Protecting Their Interests?<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Naked Capitalism has the article Why Have Private Equity Limited Partners Done a Lousy Job of Protecting Their Interests? by Yves Smith.\u00a0 The issues raised in this article are going to be a continuing focus of the Naked Capitalism blog.
