{"id":17311,"date":"2014-06-02T21:43:01","date_gmt":"2014-06-03T01:43:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/?p=17311"},"modified":"2014-06-03T09:24:48","modified_gmt":"2014-06-03T13:24:48","slug":"what-warren-and-piketty-missed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/2014\/06\/02\/what-warren-and-piketty-missed\/","title":{"rendered":"What Warren And Piketty Missed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was afraid that Warren and Piketty would miss the point that taxes are not needed to fund federal government spending.\u00a0 My fear was realized when <a title=\"Warren\/Pikety Conversation\" href=\"http:\/\/pol.moveon.org\/warrenpiketty\/watch.html?id=96589-7776955-w11pe3x&amp;t=1\" target=\"_blank\">Elizabeth Warren talked<\/a> about her bill to ease student loans by allowing the borrowers to refinance their government student loans at the lower interest rates that new government student loans are charging.<\/p>\n<p>She pointed out that even on a small segment of the population&#8217;s loans the government was getting $60billion dollars a year in interest payments on those loans.\u00a0 She then said that the money that would be forgone by lowering the interest would have to be made up in some other part of the\u00a0 budget.
