I am not sure the headline is the best representation of what is in the article.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Piketty suggests that the rise is a long-term structural trend \u2013 the outcome of decelerating population and productivity growth coupled with a profit rate (r) that stays steady. But what keeps r high? Piketty never explicitly says. This question is at the heart of the struggle over how to interpret his book.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Since I have not read the book yet, I have no idea if the reviewer is fairly representing what Piketty says.\u00a0 However, I think the review is an excellent discussion of this multifaceted issue, no matter what Piketty might have said.<\/p>\n<p>I learned about this review from a retweet by <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Baxamusa\">Murtaza Baxamusa<\/a> of <a title=\"John Schmitt's tweet\" href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/jschmittwdc\/status\/472489156455567360\" target=\"_blank\">John Schmitt&#8217;s tweet<\/a>.\u00a0 There may be other links in the comments on the tweet that are worth following up.<\/p>\n<div class=\"follow-bar\"><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jacobin has the article Piketty\u2019s Capital in the Twenty-First Century shows that not everything in mainstream economics is worthless.
