{"id":17985,"date":"2014-08-21T10:15:42","date_gmt":"2014-08-21T14:15:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/?p=17985"},"modified":"2014-08-21T10:15:42","modified_gmt":"2014-08-21T14:15:42","slug":"afghanistan-orders-expulsion-of-new-york-times-correspondent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/2014\/08\/21\/afghanistan-orders-expulsion-of-new-york-times-correspondent\/","title":{"rendered":"Afghanistan orders expulsion of New York Times correspondent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The Boston Globe<\/em> has the article <a title=\"The Boston Globe Article\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/news\/world\/2014\/08\/20\/afghanistan-orders-expulsion-new-york-times-correspondent\/ss0U4ce4AtdvmPzHM9nEBM\/story.html?p1=ArticleTab_Article_\" target=\"_blank\">Afghanistan orders expulsion of New York Times correspondent<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>KABUL \u2014 The attorney general of Afghanistan on Wednesday ordered the expulsion of an American correspondent for The New York Times, Matthew Rosenberg, and banned him from re-entering the country.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Where do you suppose <em>The Boston Globe<\/em> got this article? &#8220;By Rod Nordland | New York Times\u00a0\u00a0 August 21, 2014&#8221;\u00a0 This ought to be rich.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing like running an unbiased news story about an expulsion of a reporter from the very organization that published the original story in question.\u00a0 &#8220;The article was based on high-ranking Afghan government sources&#8230;&#8221;\u00a0 It should have read &#8220;The article was allegedly based on &#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Rosenberg declined to name them and noted that editors at the Times have internal\u00a0 checks on the use of sources&#8230;&#8221;\u00a0 Was it just the fact that the news didn&#8217;t fit that the story omitted any mention of the notorious cases where these checks failed.\u00a0 As a matter of fact, the whole invasion of Iraq was fostered by such false stories in <em>The New York Times<\/em>.\u00a0 To refresh your memory, The New York Times published stories about the Iraqi threat to the U.S.\u00a0 from high ranking, anonymous sources in the US Government.\u00a0 Dick Cheney used these reports to bolster his claims, but failed to mention that he was the source of the stories in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>When I didn&#8217;t find my comics section in the paper today, I thought it was an omission.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t realize that the humor had been moved to the news pages.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Boston Globe has the article Afghanistan orders expulsion of New York Times correspondent.
