{"id":19773,"date":"2015-03-10T12:59:55","date_gmt":"2015-03-10T16:59:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/?p=19773"},"modified":"2015-03-10T13:10:10","modified_gmt":"2015-03-10T17:10:10","slug":"47-republicans-may-have-just-broken-the-law-by-writing-an-outrageous-letter-to-iran","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/2015\/03\/10\/47-republicans-may-have-just-broken-the-law-by-writing-an-outrageous-letter-to-iran\/","title":{"rendered":"47 Republicans May Have Just Broken the Law By Writing An Outrageous Letter To Iran"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The Daily Banter<\/em> has the article <a title=\"The Daily Banter article\" href=\"http:\/\/thedailybanter.com\/2015\/03\/how-not-to-do-diplomacy\/\" target=\"_blank\">47 Republicans May Have Just Broken the Law By Writing An Outrageous Letter To Iran<\/a>.\u00a0 I particularly like the opening paragraph of the article.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Just when you thought congressional Republicans couldn\u2019t look any more like a troupe of treacherous clowns hellbent on circus-ifying anything President Obama tries to do, they pull another bag of tricks from the trunk of their tiny car.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>The Daily Banter<\/em> has a related article <a title=\"The Daily Banter article\" href=\"http:\/\/thedailybanter.com\/2015\/03\/white-house-wont-pursue-gop-senators-iran-letter-logan-act-violation\/\" target=\"_blank\">Why the White House Won\u2019t Pursue GOP Senators\u2019 Iran Letter As Logan Act Violation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>However, such an uphill fight would not be worth the gamble, politically, and under the current set of facts, the White House is getting the best of both words.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I agree that the Whitehouse might see it this way, but I completely disagree that this attitude is correct.<\/p>\n<p>As I said in my previous post <a title=\"Previous post\" href=\"http:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/2015\/03\/09\/47-senators-charged-with-violating-logan-act\/\" target=\"_blank\">47 Senators Charged With Violating Logan Act<\/a>,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I would like to see Obama have FBI agents record interviews with each one of these Senators to verify that they approved adding their names to the letter.\u00a0 If they did approve, then they can be charged.\u00a0 If they say they didn\u2019t approve, but it can be proved that they did, then they can also be charged with lying to the FBI.\u00a0 It would be fun to see if Mitch McConnell can maintain his position of majority leader in the Senate if 47 of his Senators are taken away to jail.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There comes point when the President has to say enough is enough.\u00a0 He follows a dangerous path if he fails to act against these Senators.<\/p>\n<p>Please sign the Whitehouse petition mentioned in my previous post <a title=\"Previous post\" href=\"http:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/2015\/03\/10\/senator-tom-cottons-letter-to-iran-is-a-direct-violation-of-the-logan-act-and-should-be-prosecuted\/\" target=\"_blank\">Senator Tom Cotton\u2019s letter to Iran is a direct violation of the Logan Act and should be prosecuted<\/a>.\u00a0 The least we can do to try to regain some control over our government is to sign a petition.\u00a0 It is even easier than dragging yourself to the polls to vote.<\/p>\n<p>Your might have heard of this <a title=\"Cornell Law School explanation\" href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/constitution\/first_amendment\" target=\"_blank\">right that you have<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nthe right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In this age of the internet, you don&#8217;t even have to physically assemble.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Daily Banter has the article 47 Republicans May Have Just Broken the Law By Writing An Outrageous Letter To Iran.\u00a0 I particularly like the opening paragraph of the article.
