{"id":20039,"date":"2015-03-24T08:36:11","date_gmt":"2015-03-24T12:36:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/?p=20039"},"modified":"2015-03-24T08:41:51","modified_gmt":"2015-03-24T12:41:51","slug":"sanders-offers-infrastructure-amendment-to-budget","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/2015\/03\/24\/sanders-offers-infrastructure-amendment-to-budget\/","title":{"rendered":"Sanders offers infrastructure amendment to budget"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The Hill<\/em> has the article <a title=\"The Hill article\" href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/floor-action\/senate\/236668-sanders-offers-infrastructure-amendment-to-budget\" target=\"_blank\">Sanders offers infrastructure amendment to budget<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Sanders, the ranking member of the Budget Committee, said the costs of his proposal would be offset by closing \u201chuge\u201d corporate tax loopholes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>When will progressives admit what even Republicans know?\u00a0 Increased government spending in one area does not need to be offset by decreases elsewhere.\u00a0 While closing tax loopholes is a commendable idea, it has nothing to do with offsetting other spending.<\/p>\n<p>A country that is sovereign in its own fiat currency will never run out of money.\u00a0 When the Republicans want to go to war without &#8220;paying&#8221; for it, that is a tacit admission that they agree with my analysis of fiat currency.<\/p>\n<p>It is way past time to stop making amendments that mix two unrelated topics.\u00a0 The side topic only detracts from the main topic.\u00a0 It gives the opposition another avenue of attack that we do not need to provide.\u00a0 On top of which this talk of offsetting spending only gives credence to a total myth that the Republicans and their oligarchic patrons want us little people to believe.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, it gives credence to the idea that we need to increase taxes on the ultra-rich as a way of paying for government spending, when the real reason for increasing taxes is to prevent the ultra-rich from creating financial bubbles.\u00a0 We are the ones that will drown when the bubble breaks.\u00a0 Taking this money out of the hands of the ultra-rich by raising taxes on them is a way of protecting ourselves from the harm that this excess wealth will cause the country (and is causing the country).\u00a0 The ultra-rich could avoid high taxes if they used their wealth for good purposes like raising income levels for the wage earners.\u00a0 When they insist on using it to create financial havoc, then drastic actions need to be taken.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, thanks to Mo Bracken for <a title=\"Facebook posting\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/maurice.bracken.14\/posts\/1054254691257103\" target=\"_blank\">posting this on Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Hill has the article Sanders offers infrastructure amendment to budget.
