{"id":5395,"date":"2010-12-07T15:45:37","date_gmt":"2010-12-07T20:45:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/?p=5395"},"modified":"2010-12-07T15:58:05","modified_gmt":"2010-12-07T20:58:05","slug":"president-obamas-capitulation-press-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/2010\/12\/07\/president-obamas-capitulation-press-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"President Obama&#8217;s Capitulation Press Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>C-SPAN has a video of <a title=\"President Obama's Capitulatoin\" href=\"http:\/\/www.c-span.org\/Watch\/Media\/2010\/12\/07\/HP\/R\/41634\/President+Obama+News+Conference+on+Tax+Cut+Agreement.aspx\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>President Obama&#8217;s Press Converence<\/strong><\/a> about his caving to Republican demands for tax cuts for the wealthy.<\/p>\n<p>I watched a good bit of it, but after a while, I couldn&#8217;t take any more of it.\u00a0 He just couldn&#8217;t get the concept that every time he is in a negotiation, the Republicans have him accurately pegged.\u00a0 He thinks this situation is unique, but the Republicans know how to make every situation like this one.\u00a0 Why wouldn&#8217;t the Republicans do this?\u00a0 It has been such a successful strategy for them.<\/p>\n<p>If the President could only stonewall the Republicans as well as he stonewall&#8217;s the press in this press conference, he would be doing much better in his Presidency by now.<\/p>\n<p>The President seems to find it much easier to give in to his adversaries than he finds sticking with his constituency.\u00a0 He&#8217;ll stonewall us, but give in to the opposition.\u00a0 Would it help if we became his opposition?\u00a0 I am ready to try that approach now.\u00a0 It doesn&#8217;t seem like he could be much weaker.<\/p>\n<p>When you see a tug-of-war where one side is constantly giving up a foot and taking back six inches, it&#8217;s pretty much a foregone conclusion as to where the flag is going to end up.<\/p>\n<p>The President is supposed to be a Constitutional scholar.\u00a0 Perhaps he needs to go back and study the power of the threat of a veto, let alone an actual veto.\u00a0 Maybe the veto occurs when the bill goes past your absolute limit.\u00a0 He doesn&#8217;t seem to realize that the threat of the veto has to come with a large margin of safety.\u00a0 The Republicans know how to use the filibuster.\u00a0 Why can&#8217;t he observe and learn?\u00a0 He seems to observe and give up.<\/p>\n<p>Is it time to consider the President&#8217;s action may come under <a title=\"Articles Under Greenberg's Law of Counterproductive Behavior\" href=\"http:\/\/ssgreenberg.name\/PoliticsBlog\/category\/greenbergs-law-of-counterproductive-behavior\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Greenberg&#8217;s Law of Counter-productive Behavior<\/strong><\/a>?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>If you see a behavior that seems to you to be counterproductive, perhaps you have misunderstood what the actor was trying to produce.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>C-SPAN has a video of President Obama&#8217;s Press Converence about his caving to Republican demands for tax cuts for the wealthy.
