I thought it was pretty funny when the MIT students used as an excuse that signing a pledge wouldn’t affect their behavior.
MIT Professor Dan Ariely did a study that showed that signing such pledges does actually make people consider ethics more than if they had not signed a pledge. He even wrote about it in his book, “Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions”
