Bill Moyers had another terrific show tonight. He really took on the issue of the massive shift of wealth upward in this country.
Follow this link to the PBS blog that accompanies tonight’s show.
Before it goes to the archive, you can follow this link to see the show itself. I’ll fix the link after it goes to the archive (if I remember to).
I may be one of the few voices saying this, but I hope for a rejuvenation of the entire NBC/MSNBC news operation now that Tim Russert’s evil influence is gone.
No longer will I have to turn off the Nightly News with Brian Williams when Tim Russert threatens to make an appearance on that show.
I wonder if Meet The Press can return to its glory days now that he is gone?
Countdown with Keith Olbermann seems to be the only NBC/MSNBC to have escaped most of Russert’s influence while he was still here.
I am sure it is a terrible loss for his friends and family. On the other hand, the world of professional journalism and the political climate in this country may improve tremendously. It is sad to leave such a legacy. Fortunately, he won’t be around to recognize the damage that he caused.

I was beginning to wonder if I were the only one to notice that Tim Russert had failings as a journalist. Follow this link to a collection of items about Tim Russert that have been published on The Daily Howler.
Follow this link to an article on The New Republic web site that describes some important qualities of Barack Obama in the words of a university colleague of his.
These are exactly the qualities that I thought I detected from listening to him speak and from reading what he has written. It is nice to know that these are the qualities he has demonstrated during his tenure at the University of Chicago Law School.
Usually when I have done a job interview and get a reference like this that corroborates what I saw in an interview, I have been quite happy with the people I have hired. As in any hiring decision, there is no guarantee. However, I have found that the odds are with me when I can get a reference like this.
Credit goes to lurker RichardH for bringing this article to my attention.
The Washington Post is now covering the story. Follow this link to their article.
Follow this link to a C-SPAN 4 minute video interview of Sabrina Eaton from the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper.
Follow this link to the C-SPAN 5.5 hour video of Rep. Kucinich presenting the indictment.
Now CNN is covering the story too. Follow this link to CNN.
Follow this link to see the highlighting of what may be the most serious of the articles of impeachment presented by Rep. Dennis Kucinch.
I have talked with people who claim that the fact that we have not been attacked in this country since Sep 11, 2001 is proof of George Bush’s success.
What the impeachment charges show is that the lack of such an attack is merely proof that the Bush administration may finally be taking its homeland security duties seriously. If it had done so in the months prior to the attack, the attack would have been thwarted. Over 3,000 US civilians and over 4,000 US soldiers would still be alive.
If failure to defend the nation isn’t reason enough for impeachment, then I do not know what is. Never mind the other 34 charges that Kucinich has brought.
Last night I received the following email message:
A few moments ago, (approximately 7:30 p.m. EDT), Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich took to the floor of the House of Representatives to present 35 Articles of Impeachment against George W. Bush. The House session is being televised live on C-SPAN.
I watched several hours of Kucinich’s presentation. I expected to wake up this morning to see headlines about this event. Much to my surprise, at 7:35 AM EDT, only Reuters is reporting this event. Follow this link to Reuters meager coverage. Even CSPAN is not mentioning the news that they covered live on their own network.
I guess we have just seen another way that the press has for fooling you. Just don’t bother to report the news if you don’t like it.
Now, at 7:50 AM EDT, I see that the news has finally hit Huffington Post. Follow this link to their article. You do have to do a text search on their home page to find the link to this article. How foolish of me to think this would be a major headline on the Huffington Post web site.
Follow this link to see the PDF version of the 65 page text of Kucinich’s indictment.
Follow this link to the version on Rep. Kucinich’s House Web Site. This version does not require a PDF reader. The link was suggested by ShelahJ on 10Jun2008.
I just noticed that C-SPAN finally has a link to the video and related stories. The preceding link is to C-SPAN’s home page. As time goes on, this article will get relegated to C-SPAN’s archives. This is the link to the Congressional Record for 09June2008.

This is the first detailed account that I have read. I have no idea if this story bears any resemblance to the truth.
Follow this link to hear Dan Rather explain to you why the press continuously dupes you. None of this should be a surprise to you.
He also explains that you must fight this trend. This is what I try to do on this blog, in letters to the editor, and with my posts in various places on the internet.
I have lost all faith in the veracity of The New York Times. Therefore I would not normally comment on much of anything that they say. I have not read the original op-ed, just the rebuttal.
However, I know someone is going to claim that they learned something from the Op-Ed piece. My reason for this post is to keep a record of the link to the rebuttal just in case I need it.
Follow this link to what The New York Times Public Editor wrote about Edward N. Luttwak’s Op-Ed. The following paragraph introduces the piece by the Public Editor:
On May 12, The Times published an Op-Ed article by Edward N. Luttwak, a military historian, who argued that any hopes that a President Barack Obama might improve relations with the Muslim world were unrealistic because Muslims would be “horrified” once they learned that Obama had abandoned the Islam of his father and embraced Christianity as a young adult.
The following paragraphs are the conclusion of what the Public Editor wrote:
Shipley, the Op-Ed editor, said he regretted not urging Luttwak to soften his language about possible assassination, given how sensitive the subject is. But he said he did not think the Op-Ed page was under any obligation to present an alternative view, beyond some letters to the editor.
I do not agree. With a subject this charged, readers would have been far better served with more than a single, extreme point of view. When writers purport to educate readers about complex matters, and they are arguably wrong, I think The Times cannot label it opinion and let it go at that.
