What Joe Biden Should Have Said 6

Continuing in the vein of my comments on the Presidential debate, I will cast my remarks on the Vice-Presidential debate in terms of what Joe Biden should have said.  I will write it as the Biden part of a script.

Biden:
It is well known in executive circles that the best way to judge a person’s future performance is to look at how they have behaved in the past under similar circumstances. This is why we keep looking at McCain’s record in the past 8 years. Apparently Governor Palin also recognizes this principle because she frequently refers to what she thinks is Senator Obama’s past behavior.

I leave it to the voters to decide whether their own experience of the history of McCain’s support of this administration matches what I have said here tonight. If you cannot tell whose recitation of past history is more accurate, Governor Palin’s or mine, then I suggest you do some independent research from neutral sources.

Oddly enough, I can’t think of anything else at the moment that Biden should have said differently.  What do you think?

In the debate, Palin seemed to be stringing together almost random, somewhat empty slogans. This bothered me, but I couldn’t put my finger on why. Finally I realized it was cheerleader behavior. Do I have to remind everyone what happened the last time we elected a cheerleader?

What Joe Biden should have said?

I am a fan of Tina Fey,
I enjoy the work of Tina Fey immensely,
I follow the work of Tina Fey very closely,
Sarah Palin, You are no Tina Fey.

So where is your edit button Steve? 😉
The caller found Biden to be Presidential. I mistakenly wrote I.

NPR had a call in program hosted in an auditorium at I believe St. Louis University after the debate. One caller said that he was looking for someone that could lead as he found in listening to John Kennedy and Ronald Reagan. The caller found that Palin came across as someone that could be a regular person, whereas, Joe Biden came across as Presidential. When the audience in the auditorium was asked if anyone felt Palin came across as Presidential, no one would make that claim to contradict the caller.

Another way that Biden could have gone after this issue is to say the following:

I can understand why Governor Palin does not want me to keep referring to what John McCain’s record has been in the past. In order to gain the support of the American people he has to run away from his record.

In contrast Barack Obama and I are running on our records. I am talking about our actual records, not the fictitious ones made up by the McCain/Palin political apparatus.
