Impeachment Petition Deadline Midnight Wednesday
Hear is a letter that I just received from Dennis Kucinich.
Dear Friends,
Because of your vigilance and support for democracy, last Friday was a day of singular importance in Washington. The House Judiciary Committee met to discuss the Bush Administration’s abuse of executive power and for the first time the case for Impeachment was discussed in front of a Congressional committee, in depth, at length and with authority.
Twenty members of the Judiciary Committee attended the six hour hearing, during which twelve witnesses, including myself and four members of Congress testified. In this hearing I called for the Impeachment of the President for misrepresenting a case for war.
This week I will present members of Congress with Impeachment petitions submitted by those of you who have signed the on-line impeachment form.
I need your help. In the next few days we must redouble our efforts to get more signatures on the online petition at kucinich.us. I’m asking each of you to please contact at least ten of your friends to go to www.Kucinich.us now and sign the Impeachment petition that will be delivered by me. Wednesday night is the deadline.
Please send out an email to all your friends and family, post this link, http://kucinich.us to your blogs and make this effort count as this is the only petition that I will deliver.

Be Ashamed, Be Very Ashamed
I hate watching Bill Moyer’s Journal. It makes me despair for the country.

The coverage of the US torture scandal should make us all ashamed.This country’s leaders no longer seem to care about humanity, law, and justice. The American people can’t seem to get excited over the issue either.
Sometimes I wonder what it would take to get people upset. Does using medical doctors the way the Germans did in World War II concentration camps ring any bells? Can we be more active protesters than were the German citizens of that time period? As yet, we don’t face the physical dangers that they did if they protested. Will the deteriorating economy lead us to accept the kind of government that the Germans accepted in the 1930s?
In an only vaguely related matter, when I tried to raise a ruckus over the FISA bill, some of my liberal but cynical friends said to calm down that it was just politics.
The piece with Fritz Hollings on the corruption of our government was also disturbing, even though it is not quite so close to the issue of our fundamental humanity.
Barack Obama’s Speech in Berlin

I heard it on MSNBC, not from the Obama campaign’s attempt to stream it over the internet. On my computer this attempt pooped out just as the speech was about to begin.
I didn’t hear the spin of the MSNBC talking heads after the speech, so I can only go by what I heard from listening to the speech itself.
It was an OK speech. The speech appeared to be well received by the large audience. However, it rarely roused the crowd to any level of excitement. He didn’t make any gaffes that I detected. At least he didn’t speak in German and claim to be a pastry.

If you read between the lines, you could conclude that the U.S. Constitutional protections of our civil liberties have been mute since the early 1980s. Furthermore, you might conclude that leaders of both political parties have been so involved that they would be loathe to investigate. They wouldn’t want an investigation because they know that they would all be implicated in abuses.
