Open Letter to Keith Olbermann

I cannot seem to get past the gate keepers at the MSNBC.com web site to post this letter to Keith Olbermann. Here is what I wrote to the MSNBC editors in the hope that they would pass it on to Keith Olbermann.

You sure do not make it easy to leave messages for specific shows.

I’d like to ask Keith Olbermann why he keeps talking about Rev. Wright’s National Press Club appearance as if he has the foggiest notion what went on there.

I have viewed the entire video of Wright’s appearance at the National Press Club. It is nothing like how Keith and his guest represent it.

I can understand why they cannot report on this event honestly. There was nothing wrong with Wright’s prepared speech. However, during the question and answer period the MC kept asking him hostile questions. He answered them all with great humor, intelligence, and equanimity. Obviously the MC was not prepared for such erudite answers. She was unable to change course based on what she heard. The more she proceeded, the more foolish she looked. Since many questions were prepared by members of the press, this just made them look like complete fools.

Thus the press has a conflict of interest on reporting this event.

I would like to see the press post the complete video of Wright’s appearance on their web sites. They should then show specific pieces of the appearance to back up their claims about it. Then they should tell their audience to view the entire video to see if the reporting is fair.

I guess this will happen at about the same time that the press can admit that Stephen Colbert’s appearance at the Washington Press Club dinner a few years ago was hilariously funny.

In both cases the non-press audiences at these events understood what the press seems constitutionally unable to understand.

He speaks about the people in West Virginia and Kentucky that chose Hillary Clinton over Barack Obama. These people come from the same culture as Jim Webb. He has even written a book about their origins and life in America. What he says about their political leanings and the prognosis for the Democratic party makes a lot of sense to me.

Apropos of the video, I suppose if the bees are bothering your picnic, you might be tempted to smash the bee hive.  If you are a little boy from Texas, you ought to be careful.  I hear that the Africanized killer bees have made their way to parts of Texas.  Perhaps you ought to call in a professional to tranquilize the hive with smoke before you try to move it.

I think this article’s title does not do it justice. More than just an attack on Bush’s policies, it seems to me that it talks sense about the Mideast. It is a positive statement about what talking with one’s adversaries can do. It is also about understanding the motivations of ones adversaries.

I chose to use the word adversary instead of the word enemy. In this usage, I think of an adversary as one who stakes out a position that is contrary to the one you desire. On the other hand, an enemy is one that is seemingly unalterably hostile to you. It is not wise to behave in a way that  turns an adversary into an enemy.

I don’t claim to have any knowledge as to whether or not these charges are true. It would seem hard to make these charges backed up by public documents if they were not true. However, past history has shown that more blatant lies have propagated without any public media raising any question.

I have no reason to believe that these sound bites are any more representative of Hagee’s thoughts than were the sound bites of Rev. Wright.  The complete sermons and appearances of Rev. Wright that I have on this web site, show that the sound bites were completely wrong about Wright.

Since I  do not claim to be fair and balanced on this site, I leave it up to you to do the research on Rev. Hagee.  Maybe as proved to be true with Wright, he means the exact opposite of what these sounds bites appear to have him saying.

IRAQ: The elusive Iranian weapons

Over the last several months I have read a few reports debunking the U.S. claims that Iranian made weapons have been found in Iraq.

This time I decided to save this link to an LA Times story that adds to the picture.

In a couple of years, the Bush defenders will start saying that everyone believed that Iraq was arming the insurgents in Iraq back in 2008 when Bush started another war. I want to have a comprehensive record to refute this argument.

In the National Press Club interview, the MC asked Wright about his claim that HIV/AIDS was invented by Americans (I don’t remember the exact words of the claim). Wright mentioned the reasonably well known incident of the syphilis experiment conducted by the government on some black men. (I know, I have read at least one doubter that this ever happened.) He then said that he believes that a government that would carry this out would be capable of doing something similar with AIDS/HIV. He specifically did not say that he knew that the government had done so.

In his reply, he mentioned an author of a book on the subject. I have always intended to look at the video again so that I could track this reference down. In response to one of my items on Huffington Post, I was given the following link:

I have briefly looked at this page. My first reaction is that this is another nut with a conspiracy theory. However, given the behavior that I have witnessed of the media in this whole Rev. Wright affair, it does make you wonder if this could actually be true. Someday, I may dig further. I post this link for anybody else who may want to look into this.
