Steve Carrell Nails McCain On Pork-Barrelling

Follow this link to an interview of John McCain by Steve Carrell in 2000.

Spoiler alert —

He asked McCain how he could reconcile his criticism of pork-barrel politics with the fact that “while you were chairman of the Commerce Committee, that committee set a record for unauthorized appropriations.” For a long moment, McCain was speechless.

1 Lie Per Minute

Video Proof John McCain’s Ads are Lies

Follow this link to see a video showing the lies that John McCain has approved.

The video mentions the following truths:

– McCain derides Obama for protecting children from sexual predators

– McCain derides Obama for wanting to talk to Iran although we talked to the USSR

– McCain misinterprets reason why Obama blocked from seeing troops by Pentagon

– McCain has frequently not supported the troops

– McCains campaign filled with lobbyists he claims to have restricted in politics

– McCain’s plan for drilling will have no impact for 30 years.

If the truth were on their side, they would tell the truth.

2 Lies Per Minute

Sarah Palin’s Churches and The Third Wave

Follow this link to see an article and video about Sarah Palin’s churches and The Third Wave.

Normally, I don’t put much stock in this stuff.  However, I provide this as a service to any of my readers who were concerned about Obama’s pastor, Rev Wright.  If you thought you might vote for McCain/Palin because of fear of Rev. Wright, perhaps you ought to view the above video.

Obama’s Voting “Present” Does Not Mean “Maybe”

Follow this link where Eric Zorn explains in a Chicago Tribune article what a “present” vote by Barack Obama in the Illinois Legislature really means.

Again, Sarah Palin, takes a cheap shot with a Big Lie.  To be most charitable one might say she is spouting off again about subjects she knows nothing about. It is further proof that one refutation of a big lie is not enough.  We have to refute over and over again.  It also shows why I like to keep links to these refutations.  With McCain/Palin, you know that one refutation is not enough.

I am going to take my own suggestion and develop a graphic Lieometer to use with all comments about the McCain/Palin strategy.

Thanks to RichardH for finding the above link to give credence to my explanation to him of the meaning of the “Present” vote.

Countering the Big Lies of the McCain/Palin Campaign 2

Follow this link to a New York Times article about Governor Rendell and the Obama campaign’s reaction to the big lie campaign from McCain and Palin. Specifically, Rendell was complaining about the lies McCain/Palin are spewing over Obama’s tax plan.  They keep saying he will raise taxes on the middle class when the Obama plan will do the exact opposite of that.

The only way to counter a Big Lie campaign is to state the Big Truth much more often than the other campaign can state the Big Lie.

Counting the number of statements of the Big Lie must include every political cartoon, every newspaper article, every letter to the editor, every hallway conversation.  Those who believe in the truth must be part of the counter effort.

You could also follow this link to see and to sponsor the Obama/Biden ad that helps counter the Big Lie.

You could follow this link to see more Big Lies that need countering and see the video that counters them.

You could follow this link to see my suggestion on the Obama Campaign’s web site for a Lieometer in all of Obama’s ads against the Big Lie. If that suggestion would get enough views and comments, the Obama campaign might take notice.

Olbermann Misses The Boat On Palin This Time

I just love titles like the above.  It gets the anti-Olbermann internet sites directing a lot of traffic this way.

In fact it was Rachel Maddow anchoring the show tonight who flew right past the significance of Palin.

Maddow went on and on about all the lies Palin told and all her political liabilities when her guest calmly explained that this has nothing to do with facts, political ability, or running a country.

This is all about winning an election and what you have to do to win it if you are McCain. McCain will only let Palin talk to reporters that will help his campaign.  Well, Duh.  Wouldn’t he be a fool to let her talk to anyone else?

Palin drains all the energy out of any other topic in the campaign.  This focuses all the attention on the McCain campaign.  The Obama campaign  can’t even get a word in edgewise.  Wouldn’t you call that a success for McCain?

While the McCain campaign misleads the media into thinking this choice was to get the women’s vote, he is merrily attracting the male vote.  What man in this country wouldn’t want a Playboy Bunny as a vice-president?  While the media go on and on about how silly it is to think this choice will get the women’s vote, McCain has his eye on the male vote. I bet the McCain campaign gets Palin to dump the eyeglasses for contacts and gets her to wear more revealing clothes.

What better way to get the voting male excited than to talk about teen sex and pregnancy? It is not the result of pregnancy that arouses the male, but thoughts about how she got that way. When it comes to making decisions, it is not always the brain that is the most important part of the male body. (No pun intended.)

McCain’s personal history shows that he doesn’t need campaign advisers to explain this to him.  This is one thing he could figure out on his own.

Yes, this is sexist and it has been proven to work.

The ticket is Obama/Biden.

Follow this link to see CSPAN’s coverage of the speeches in Springfield, Illinois.

Follow this link to see CNN’s coverage. The video may be better than CSPAN’s.

I know I said I was angry at Obama over his FISA vote and would look for another candidate at the convention.  After seeing Obama and Biden today, I am back onboard the Obama/Biden train.

It was clear from Biden’s speech today what a great addition he is to the ticket.  Besides all the substantive contributions he can make to the administration, he will make a great running mate. Obama needed a running mate that could say the things that Biden said.  Biden can tell us why he thinks Obama is the one to elect in a way that Obama could not.  It looks much better to have someone else tout your virtues than doing it yourself.

That's The Ticket

How Obama Reconciles Dueling Views on Economy

Here is another gem suggested by Richard H.

Follow this link to an article that will appear in this Sunday’s New York Times Magazine.  It gives the most detailed view of Obama’s thinking on economics that I have seen so far.  It is what gives me hope that there might be a group of people who really care about making this country work better even when all else looks like despair.  (For despair, see my preceding post What’s The Matter With America)
